Poliakov slapped with two year ban
Russian swimmer Anatoliy Poliakov was on Thursday banned for two years after testing positive for the anabolic steroid boldenone.
The 26-year-old, who picked up a bronze medal in the 200m butterfly at the 2001 world championships, failed a control conducted by the sport's governing body FINA on January 23.
The suspension took effect from April 25.
FINA also reported Thursday that two other swimmers - Poliakov's compatriot Anastasiya Ivanenko and Oussama Mellouli of Tunisia - had failed drug tests for the diuretic furosemide and amphetamines respectively.
Ivanenko, 800m women's freestyle shortcourse champion, was banned for two years while Mellouli, 800m freestyle world champion, is waiting to hear her fate.
